The People’s Burn Foundation has launched a “grass roots” fundraising initiative seeking 100 “team captains” interested in “recruiting” 100 people each to donate $25 for the organization’s efforts to support burn survivors and their families, according to Jim Shaffer, Executive Director. “This effort is about as ‘grass roots’ as it gets to generate funding for the Foundation during challenging economic times,” said Shaffer. “Our approach is to seek more small donations of $25 from a wider range of donors.” The Foundation’s goal is to raise $250,000 through a concentrated effort by creating 100 “Brave Hearts Teams” to raise $2,500 each to support its mission – “Healing Lives One Brave Heart at a Time,” according to Shaffer. “We recognize the economy is challenging for everyone; however, burn injuries and the devastation they have on the survivor and their family does not care about Wall Street or Gross National Product,” Shaffer stated. “These people still need our support.” People interested in serving as a “Brave Hearts Team” captain may contact Shaffer at jshaffer@peoplesburnfoundation.org or Cindy Allison, Director of Events, Development & Camp, at callison@peoplesburnfoundation.org. The Foundation’s phone number is (317) 803-2876.

INDIANAPOLIS – This Sunday as the Colts prepare to take on the New York Jets inside Lucas Oil Stadium, there will be volunteers and firefighters outside the stadium supporting a special cause. Beginning at 1 p.m., volunteers will be stationed at the Colts Community Collection Stations, presented by Toyota, collecting donations for The People’s Burn Foundation. The first 15,000 fans who donate to the cause will receive a limited edition poster featuring Colts Center Jeff Saturday. Cash donations, as well as checks made payable to The People’s Burn Foundation, will be accepted at each collection site. Saturday and his wife, Karen, became spokespeople for The People’s Burn Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides support for Hoosiers affected by burn injuries and fire devastation, after they experienced a fire in their home several years ago. The Colts and the Saturday’s have continued to support People’s Burn Foundation over the years and will provide their AFC Championship Game as a way for the organization to raise awareness and support for the work they do. This collection is part of the Colts ongoing gameday collections program through which they provide support for several charitable causes each season. The 2009-10 season collections have included Coats for Kids, Finish Line’s Soles4Souls Shoe Collection, Meijer SACKing Hunger Food Drive and WISH-Tree Toy Drive. A complete list is available at www.colts.com/collections. About The People’s Burn Foundation Founded in Indianapolis as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 1997, the Foundation provides programs to assist people affected by burn injuries and fire devastation in Indiana, including “Helping Brave Hearts Heal” for basic personal necessities of patients at area hospital burn centers; “Brave Hearts Camp” for burn survivor children at Bradford Woods near Martinsville, IN; Adult and Child Burn Survivor Support groups and other activities; and support for families affected by fire devastation in collaboration with American Red Cross and other agencies.
